Lake-Burton
is located in the northeastern corner of Georgia in Rabun County. It's one of the six lakes in Rabun County that was created in 1925 when Georgia Power flooded a deep valley, submerging the town of Burton for which the lake was named. Lake Burton covers 2,775 acres, with 62 miles of gorgeous shoreline. It's the first in the chain of lakes in Rabun County (the northernmost of the lakes) followed by Lake Seed, Lake Rabun, Lake Tallulah Falls, Lake Tugalo and Lake Yonah. On the western side of the lake is the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery and Moccasin Creek State Park. The lake is home to several species of fish, including Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass, White Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, White Catfish, Walleye, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Yellow Perch. Moccasin Creek State Park offers hiking trails, camping and a fishing pier. Lake Burton is well known for their annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration. The display is held on Billy Goat Island, an island on the south side of Lake Burton, on the Saturday before July 4th. The fireworks can be viewed from the shore or from boats near the island. Lake Burton also offers easy access to the Chattahoochee National Forest and the Appalachian Trail.

Northeastern Georgia has a four-season climate that is warm during summer (temperatures tend to be in the 70's) and cool during winter ( temperatures in the 40's.) The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 86.2 degrees Fahrenheit, while the coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 28 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperature variations between night and day tend to be moderate. The annual average precipitation in this area is 60 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year.
