Dillard
is a tiny town in Rabun County in the northeast tip of Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the population was 198 residents. This friendly, quiet, down-home town is known primarily for the Dillard House, a regionally well-known inn, restaurant and conference center that serves traditional southern meals. However, there are many other attractions in Dillard to enjoy. Specialty shops line the streets, and include a year-round Christmas shop to a general store. The Rabun Gap Flea Market is located about two miles south of Dillard, open on Saturdays and Sundays from April through October. The flea market offers everything from antiques to clothes and produce. The scenery surrounding Dillard will take your breath away and it's a nature lover's dream. The Appalachian Trail is just a 15-minute drive from Dillard and Black Rock Ridge Mountain State Park is 3 ½ miles away. Activities include mountain biking, hiking, boating, fly-fishing, horseback riding, golf, picnicking, rafting and canoeing. Other nearby attractions include the Chattooga River, which is Georgia's only designated Wild and Scenic River. Dillard offers unlimited recreation within a 20-mile radius - this is one small town where you will never be bored.

Dillard Weather & Climate

The westernnmost mountain region of North Carolina is the smallest of the three main divisions of the state; the Coastal Plain, the Piedmont and the Mountains. However, its' range of elevation is the greatest; it stretches upward from around 1,500 feet along the eastern boundary to 6,684 feet at the summit of Mt. Mitchell. The climate is definitely effected by elevation. Overall, spring is unpredictable, summer is warm with moderate humidity, autumn is crisp and cool and winters are cold - but moderate. More extreme winter conditions can be expected at the mountain peaks. Showers and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer. Expect temperatures to be 10 to 20 degrees cooler on the mountaintops than in the lower elevations. Although snow in winter is likely, most ski resorts rely on snowmaking equipment because daytime highs can often hover in the 40-degree range.
