Lake-Arrowhead
is a private, gated community located two miles southwest of the small town of Waleska in northwestern Georgia. Lake Arrowhead is also the name of the 540-acre lake that is the focal point of the community. Situated in mountainous Cherokee County, Lake Arrowhead is the state's largest. man-made, private lake. The reservoir is stream-fed and boasts a depth of over 80 feet and is consistently ranked as one of the cleanest lakes in Georgia. Some of the activities at Lake Arrowhead include power boating, pontoon boating, canoeing, kayaking and other water sports. A boat rental concession is located on site at the lake. Lake Arrowhead is about 2.2 miles in length and is divided into two parts - the big basin is the widest part running to the south edge at the dam. The north part of the lake includes The Narrows, where the lake divides into a number of scenic coves. Another lake, Lake Chickasaw, is also located in the Lake Arrowhead community. Other attractions on site include an 18-hole golf course, clubhouse, marina, community swimming pool, nature trails, tennis courts and a chapel. In addition, the community includes a small historic cemetery, which contains graves of early settlers. The Lake Arrowhead community has plans to add a lake pavilion, another 18-hole golf course, a new community area, skate park, amphitheatre and restaurant.

Lake Arrowhead Weather & Climate

Northwest Georgia is classified as having a humid subtropical climate. Winters are usually mild with occasional cold snaps, summers are hot and humid. In winter, warm maritime air can bring spring-like weather, while at other times strong Arctic air can plunge temperatures into the teens. This region receives lots of rainfall, which is relatively distributed throughout the year, although spring and fall are drier than winter and summer. Some years there is no snowfall, but the average is 2.5 inches per year. The heaviest snowstorm on record brought 10 inches in January, 1940. Blizzards are rare. Ice storms usually cause more problems than snowfall.
