Cloudland
is the name of a state park located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain in the northwestern corner of Georgia. Situated between the towns of Trenton and Cooper Heights, it's the largest and one of the most scenic parks in the state. Cloudland Canyon State Park straddles a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch Creek. Visitors are awarded stunning views across the deep gorge, and elevation ranges from 800 1,980 feet. One of the most magnificent views of the canyon can be seen from the parking lot and picnic area, and also along the rim trail. At the bottom of the gorge, two waterfalls cascade over the rocks, into small pools below. It is possible to hike to the bottom of the gorge to the waterfalls, but one must be in pretty good shape physically to do so. Wading or swimming in the pools is not allowed. Cottages are available for rent in the area, and there is a walk-in campsite in the park, as well as a tent, trailer and RV campsite. Supplies can be found in the office gift shop. Other activities in Cloudland Canyon State Park include geocaching, picnicking, tennis, disc golf and fishing. There is a 4.9-mile west rim loop hike, 2-mile waterfalls trail, 2-mile backcountry loop and 6.5-mile Sitton's Gulch trail. Park hours are 7am - 10pm. Park gates lock at 10 pm and there is no late access permitted.

The northwestern corner of Georgia has a mountainous climate with mild to warm summers and cold winters. The warmest month of the year is July, but summer temperatures tend to be in the 70s and 80s. The coldest month of the year is January with an average temperature of 29.9 degrees F. Temperature variations between night and day are moderate in both winter and summer, with an average difference of 20 degrees. F. Annual precipitation in northwestern Georgia is 48.93 inches. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year, with March being the wettest month. Snowfall occurs most winters in the mountains, and increases in frequency and amounts the farther north you go in Georgia.
