Blairsville
is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest within the Blue Ridge Mountains of northeast Georgia. The population of the village is approximately 700 residents. Blairsville is one of the oldest towns in Georgia, founded in 1835. It's the only incorporated town in Union County and its' historic courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The DeSota Falls Scenic Area, just 15 miles from Blairsville, has five waterfalls and over 600 acres for fishing, camping and picnicking. A little closer to Blairsville on the Richard Russell Scenic Highway is Dukes Creek Falls, where the spectacular falls can be observed from a deck in the parking area. Part of the Appalachian Trail winds it's way through the Chattahoochee National Forest, just 15 miles southeast of Blairsville. Vogel State Park is located 11 miles south of Blairsville and is Georgia's oldest and most popular state park. It provides a 20-acre swimming beach, picnicking, hiking, backpacking, fishing, boating, miniature golf and camping. Special programs are also offered at the park throughout the year. Several special events are held in Blairsville, including the Scottish Festival & Highland Games, usually held in June. The Annual Sorghum Festival is held in October and includes a parade, mountain music and clogging, arts and crafts, a biscuit eatin' contest and other great food.

The Mountains, due to their mild summer temperatures, have always been a welcome escape from the heat at the lower elevations. Midsummer afternoon temperatures average only around 80 degrees at elevations of 3,000 feet or higher. Nights are crisp and cool, but seldom too cold for outdoor activities or camping. In winter, snowfall is likely most years, but ski resorts use snowmaking equipment to ensure a reliable supply. Large amounts of snow and extreme low temperatures are rare except at the highest peaks. Rainfall is common in spring and summer. In spring, storm systems that bring cold weather southward reach North Carolina less often and less forcefully than in other parts of the country. Occasional invasions of cool dry air from the north continue during the summer, but are of short duration. Fall has warm days and cool nights and is the driest period.
